SEO writing is the process of writing content that is optimized for search engines. It involves using keywords, key phrases, and long-tail keywords to write content that will help it rank well in search engine rankings. This can include everything from blog posts to articles on your website. In addition, SEO writing often uses more natural language than typical online marketing strategies. Search engines are more likely to trust content written in easy-to-read language than they are marketing copy. That being said, here are some ways to optimize your SEO writing:

Write for the Reader

While search engines may differ in how they index content, there are a few commonalities across the major search engines. These include:

  • Content on topics that are valuable to your audience need to be written in natural language that is easy to read.
  • Key phrases need to be used in conjunction with other words or phrases. If you use just one word or phrase and isolate it on a page, it will probably rank well but will not be relevant to users if they are not looking for the exact phrase you are optimizing for.
  • The content should be 100% unique. Usually a free plagiarism checker needs to be used to make sure that the text is acceptable.

Include Keywords

Text without keywords is not searched engine-optimized. The goal of search engine optimization is to allow visitors to find your page or business quickly, which means using keywords to achieve this. Keywords are what will increase your page’s relevance for users and help it rank for the phrases a user will be searching for on Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others. With the variety of search engines available, there are thousands of possible keywords you can use in your pages and articles and maybe only 3-5 that get the most traffic from users.

Use Long-tail Keywords

This means using words or phrases that are different than the main keywords but still relevant to each other in your content. For example, when writing about “homes for sale” in your local area, using “homes for sale” and “sales” alone can bring results about real estate listings. However, it won’t rank well for the phrase “homes for sale near me,” because that is someone looking for a local place to buy. If you want to rank well on this phrase and others like it, you need to work with long-tail keywords. These phrases typically include multiple words or phrases that work together to form a single keyword.

Make It Readable

Search engines don’t seem to care how you write, but users do. There are many different styles and techniques you can use to make the content on your page more readable. While some of these items might not be important in your primary writing, they are when optimizing for search engines. These can include:

  • Paragraphs need to be about 3 or 4 lines long. If a paragraph is longer than this, it will be hard for users to read and understand what you’ve typed, even if it contains great keywords and phrases.
  • Write in a conversational style. This means not using overly formal language and avoiding legal jargon if you’re writing about something that is more casual in nature.

Don’t Keyword Stuff

While keyword stuffing will help your page rank better using some search engines, it won’t be SEO-optimized. Keyword stuffing is when your page contains multiple instances of the same word or phrase over and over again, typically with no actual meaning to the phrase or any relevant information attached to it. This can be frustrating for users trying to read your content and make little sense for search engines because they aren’t sure why you’re focusing on certain words so much.

Bottom Line

The goal of SEO writing isn’t to write copy for the sake of keywords and keywords alone. It’s about providing valuable, informative information that users can understand so that readers will come back again and again. If you need good SEO writing tips that is relevant and easy to read and clear enough for search engines to understand your content, Sydney SEO can help.
